For “the project” that is…We had a very busy day today. Thankfully it’s started to get warm again so we started working on the pond again after work this past week. We actually had to completely drain the pond, scrub it and refill it. That was pretty ick, but it looks much better now. We have pretty much finished the rock placement around the pond and in the waterfalls. I forget how many pounds of rock it took, but it was somewhere near 5000. So…needless to say, we’re happy to have that done! The patio on the far side of the bridge is done and we’ve even got a few plants planted here and there. Tomorrow we’re going to make a couple flower beds on either side of the new round patio. Woohoo…you know I’m excited about that!
Yesterday Nan let us go from work at about 4:15 and we came home and got started. I dug up some iris to replant around the round patio and planted the ones Mammaw gave me, which have held up surprisingly well being that they’ve been out of the ground for a couple weeks. Mark tilled the garden and tilled a new bed by the pergola. Ah…progresss.
We started working outside about 10:00 today and got the pergola and the surrounding area cleaned up. I got the patio furniture scrubbed and hosed down. Mark moved some excess dirt out of the way. We did get to go to a nursery in Union City today and I actually really enjoy doing that. We didn’t get much there, but we also went to Lowe’s and we did a little better there. After that we went over to Mark’s mother’s house to visit…a family friend was in town from Chicago visiting. I had met her last year when Mark and I went to Chicago and she’s great. We didn’t get to spend long there, but it was good to get a visit in. After that we came back home, repotted some plants…and I sat out on the round patio and watched Mark work…I swear sometimes he just won’t sit still!! Needless to say we’re both exhausted, but I think very pleased with everything we got accomplished today. I’m really excited about how the new pond and patio are going to look when they’re finished. Now we’re just sitting here in the library sipping on some wine and listening to I-tunes. So nice after such a busy day.
Tomorrow, as I said, we’ll be making the new flower beds and hopefully making a trip to Greenfield to one of our most favorite nurseries to get some more flowers and some vegetables for the garden. That is if we can move tomorrow. We moved a lot of rocks today and I’m starting to feel a little bit sore!
We’re really looking forward to finishing up this project (or at least the major construction phase of this project) and having some people over to enjoy it with us. It really is very cool and very relaxing to sit out by that pond. I certainly never thought I’d like this kind of thing, but the longer I’m here, the more attached I am to this farm. It’s really starting to feel more like mine all the time. OK…ours. LOL
Here’s a couple pics Mark took tonight. There’s still alot of mess around, so disregard that…I’m sure that’ll be taken care of tomorrow!

I could use your photos in a higher rez … something I could print and take to the Mammaws. We are driving up today and I plan on taking a rural route… some path I have never taken before…. just to look around.
Your project looks wonderful. I am relaxing just thinking about the setting. Hope to make the journey there soon… weather is warm, Hampton Inn is open (kidding) You guys have done a great job and I am sure you will reap the benefits for years to come.
